Rajnath Singh: Centre open to Amendments in Agnipath Scheme as needed

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently defended the Agnipath scheme, emphasizing its positive impact on the armed forces. He stated that recruiting young individuals would enhance the risk-taking spirit and technological proficiency among soldiers.
Singh highlighted the importance of youthfulness in the armed forces and stressed the benefits of recruiting individuals aged 18-20 under the Agnipath scheme. He assured that the future of these recruits would not be compromised.

Assurance of security

Addressing concerns about India's security, Singh reassured the public that the country's borders are secure, urging faith in the armed forces. He cited extensive military and diplomatic efforts to resolve border conflicts, particularly in eastern Ladakh.
The Agnipath recruitment scheme, introduced in June 2022, aims to lower the age profile of the armed forces by enlisting individuals aged 17 and a half to 21 for a four-year term. A quarter of them can opt for a longer service period of 15 years.
Singh also shared insights from his political career spanning nearly five decades. He addressed questions about India-China border tensions, emphasizing the government's commitment to national interests while respecting strategic confidentiality.

Reassurance to the Public

The border standoff between India and China, which began in May 2020, witnessed significant diplomatic and military engagements to de-escalate tensions. Despite challenges, both sides completed disengagement processes in various friction areas.
Rajnath Singh's remarks underscored the government's support for youth recruitment in the armed forces and its commitment to safeguarding national security. He urged public confidence in India's defense capabilities amidst ongoing border challenges with China.
